The mens Chelsea boots is one of the few items in menswear that genuinely works across different registers — smart enough for a suit, relaxed enough for jeans, and effortless enough to put on in under three seconds. These handmade burgundy Chelsea boots are built from smooth full-grain leather in a deep oxblood burgundy, with a squared toe, stacked block heel, elastic side gusset, and leather pull tab. Nothing unnecessary. Nothing missing.

Every pair of ankle boots is handmade to order in our family workshop in Sialkot, Pakistan, where skilled craftsmen have been producing leather footwear since 2009. If your size or width falls outside the standard range, message us before ordering.

What You Are Getting

Upper: Full-grain cowhide leather, smooth finish, oxblood burgundy
Closure: Elastic side gusset — no lacing, no buckle, slip-on
Pull tab: Leather pull tab stitched into the rear collar
Toe: Squared — a more modern shape than the traditional round toe
Heel: Stacked leather block heel, approximately 1.5 inches
Sole: Leather with rubber heel cap for grip
Lining: Soft genuine leather throughout
Insole: Cushioned leather insole with arch support
Construction: Hand-stitched throughout, made to order on a traditional last

The Elastic Gusset

The elastic side panel is what separates a mens Chelsea boots from every other ankle boots. It stretches to let your foot enter and then contracts to hold the shaft against the ankle — no adjustment required, no lacing to get even, no buckle to check. You pull the boot on using the rear tab, the gusset accommodates the entry, and the boot fits. That is the design. It has worked in exactly the same way since the 1850s and it still works now.

These are leather ankle boots built to be worn daily. The gusset on a well-made Chelsea does not bag out or lose its elasticity because it is set correctly in the boot during construction. On a poorly made Chelsea, the gusset stretches and the boot ends up sitting loosely on the ankle. These are made correctly.

The Colour

Oxblood burgundy occupies an interesting space in menswear. It is not red — it sits considerably darker and more complex than any shoe most people would call red. It is not brown — it reads as a distinct, deliberate colour choice rather than a neutral. And it is not burgundy in the wine sense — it is deeper, with more of a blue-red undertone, closer to what you see on good claret than on a restaurant wine list.

The ankle boots leather is smooth full-grain, which means the colour is applied to the surface of the hide and will deepen and develop natural variation with wear and conditioning. When you receive the ankle boots, the colour will be consistent across the surface. After a few months of wear and polishing, the toe and edges will show deeper saturation than the vamp, giving the leather a natural, dimensional appearance. This is not a defect. It is how good leather ages.

A note on screen accuracy: oxblood burgundy displays differently across monitors and phones. The ankle boots will arrive darker and richer than some screens suggest, and lighter and more red than others. They are photographed in natural daylight for accuracy. If you are uncertain about the colour, message us and we can send additional photos in different lighting.

How to Wear Them

These men's Chelsea boots sit at the intersection of formal and casual, which is why they are useful in a way that a plain black Oxford or a chunky work boot is not.

With a slim suit in navy or charcoal, the burgundy reads as a considered departure from black shoes. It works particularly well with navy, where the colour complementary relationship between blue and red-brown is well established. The squared toe keeps the silhouette formal enough for most business environments.

With dark slim trousers and a shirt: the everyday office combination. No-show socks or fine dress socks, tucked trouser just clearing the top of the boot shaft.

With dark jeans and a knit or blazer: smart casual, the register where mens Chelsea boots have always been strongest. The smooth leather and block heel keep the boot from reading as rugged or outdoor — this is a dress boot worn casually, not a work boot dressed up.

With a grey or charcoal suit for a wedding: burgundy leather ankle boots in a smooth finish are a legitimate alternative to black dress shoes for non-black-tie weddings. They read as contemporary and intentional rather than casual.

Sizing and Fit

These ankle boots are Available in US size 5 through US 15, including half sizes. These ankle boots run true to size. The elastic gusset accommodates some variation in instep height — a high instep will be held more firmly, a lower instep will have a slightly looser feel at the ankle. If you have a wide forefoot, message us before ordering.

To get the right fit: stand on paper in socks, trace your foot, and measure heel to longest toe in centimetres. Send us that measurement and we will confirm your size before we start making. This is especially important with Chelsea boots because the fit across the ankle gusset depends on the length of the last being correct.

Customisation

These ankle boots are available in black, dark brown, cognac, and oxblood burgundy (shown). The heel can be adjusted to approximately 1 inch or 2 inches on request. The sole can be switched to rubber or leather. The toe can be made in a round or chisel shape instead of the squared profile shown. Message us before ordering for any of these changes.

Care

Smooth leather picks up scuffs more visibly than grain leather. A light application of matching shoe cream after the first wear creates a wax base that protects the surface and makes subsequent polishing easier. Use oxblood or dark burgundy cream — not dark brown, which will shift the hue over time toward brown. Buff with a horsehair brush.

Condition every two to three months with a leather conditioner. The smooth full-grain leather will develop natural creasing at the flex point above the toe box — this is normal and will even out with conditioner and shoe trees. Store with shoe trees to maintain the Chelsea shape across both the toe and the shaft.

Keep these ankle boots away from prolonged rain. The leather is treated but not waterproofed. If they get wet, let them dry naturally away from heat and condition them immediately after drying.
