The colour changes depending on the light.
In direct sun, the centre of the shoe reads as warm amber — the kind of cognac you associate with a well-aged leather briefcase. Move into shade and the edges deepen into a dark tobacco-chocolate, almost approaching purple-brown. Under office fluorescents, the whole thing looks like a rich medium brown. These are hand painted patina Oxford shoes, and the gradient is why no two pairs look identical and why the shoe looks different at 9am under office lighting than it does at a candlelit dinner table.
Every pair is handmade and hand-painted to order in our family workshop in Sialkot, Pakistan, where skilled craftsmen have been producing leather footwear since 2009.
What You Are Getting
Upper: Full-grain cowhide leather — the patina dye is applied directly to the surface by hand
Patina finish: Warm cognac amber at the centre, deepening through tan and tobacco to dark chocolate-brown at the edges, seams, and heel

Polish: Glacage mirror finish on the toe box — high-gloss hand polish applied over the patina

Lining: Soft genuine leather — breathable, all-day comfort
Insole: Cushioned leather insole with arch support
Outsole: Genuine leather sole — thin formal profile
Heel: Stacked leather block heel
Construction: Hand-stitched throughout
The Patina
Patina is not a colour. It is a technique. Our craftsman applies dye to the raw leather by hand in multiple passes, working from the lightest tone at the centre outward toward the darker edges. Each pass is allowed to absorb before the next is applied. The process takes several hours per pair. Because the dye is applied freehand, the gradient on every pair falls slightly differently — the amber zone is wider on some pairs, the dark tobacco edges are more pronounced on others. This is deliberate. Mass-produced shoes are uniform because machines produce uniformity. These are not.
The technique has a name in Italian bespoke shoemaking — anticatura — and it is the finish that separates a Berluti or a John Lobb from anything on the high street. Our shoes are made in Sialkot, not Paris, and they cost considerably less. The technique is the same.
The Cap-Toe Brogue
A plain cap-toe Oxford is formal. Add brogue perforations along the cap seam and quarter panels and you have a shoe that carries the same formality but reads as more considered. The semi-brogue does not announce itself — the perforations are visible up close but do not read as decorative from a distance. The result is a cognac dress shoe for men that works in a boardroom without looking overdressed and works at a wedding without looking like you tried too hard.
How to Wear These
Cognac Oxford shoes work with almost any suit colour that is not black. The warm amber-brown tones of the patina complement navy, grey, charcoal, tan, and olive particularly well.
For a wedding or formal event: navy or mid-grey suit, white shirt, no tie or a knit tie in a complementary colour. These are the shoes where guests ask the groom where he bought them.
For business formal: mid-grey or charcoal trousers, white or blue shirt. The brogue detail keeps the shoe from reading as plain, which is appropriate if you want your shoes to be noticed without your outfit becoming about them.
For smart casual: dark chinos, a knit polo or a blazer. The cognac patina reads as warm and intentional against any dark trouser. These are brown dress shoes for men that cross into smart-casual territory without losing their formality.
The Colour — Honest Description
These shoes will look different on your screen than they do in person, and different in your home than they do in a restaurant. This is the nature of a hand-painted patina. The dominant tone in person is warm cognac-brown — not orange, not yellow, closer to the colour of dark honey or aged whisky. The edges are deep chocolate-tobacco, significantly darker than the centre. In low light the contrast between centre and edge becomes more pronounced. In bright light the amber centre reads more vividly.
If you are comparing these to a uniform brown dress shoe and expecting that colour, these will be warmer and more complex. If you have seen patina shoes before, these will look exactly as expected.
Sizing and Fit
Available from US 5 through US 15, including half sizes. True to size. Wide-fit available on request. To get an exact fit: stand on paper in socks, trace your foot, measure heel to longest toe in centimetres, and send us that number. We confirm your size before we begin.
Customisation
The patina can be produced in different colour combinations on request — burgundy-to-black, navy-to-cognac, green-to-brown, or a lighter cognac if you prefer less contrast. The sole can be rubber instead of leather. The lace colour can be changed. Message us before ordering with any request.
Care
These shoes require the same care as any fine leather Oxford, with one additional consideration for the patina. Use a neutral or cognac leather cream — not a dark brown wax, which will shift the lighter centre zone toward uniformity over time. Apply conditioner every two to three months. Store with the wooden shoe trees that come with the pair — the trees maintain the toe shape and help the leather breathe between wears.
The patina will deepen and develop additional character with wear. The edges will become slightly darker as they flex and absorb polish. The centre will develop a more personal variation in tone. This is how patina leather shoes are supposed to age. After two years of regular wear, these will look better than they do now.
